Happy Wedding Wednesday loves!!
Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places on Earth to host a wedding. The scenery is just spectacular and few places can compare. Add the beauty of a couple very much in love and committing themselves to one another for the rest of their lives and it’s simply…magic.
Lori and Eddie were married on October 11th, 2013 in South Lake Tahoe, California.
From the wedding coordinator Amanda Mason of Tahoe Beach Retreat…
“With the tall pines as their aisle, the sand under their feet, the sound of waves on the shore was how Lorena Bussey & Edward Winans said their “I dos ” at the Beach Retreat and Lodge at Tahoe on this perfect fall day in October. The burlap and lace runners, ivory pearls, DIY rustic mason jars filled with flowers of all shades of purple, personalized chalkboards, flip flops for dancing, homemade BBQ sauce given as wedding favors, and the vintage candy and popcorn bar were the unique touches that gave this wedding so much character and warmth! Speaking of warmth, this couple was wonderful to work with and so full of love and excitement for one another. The love for their family and friends who attended was obvious as well! The day ended with a beautiful sunset over Lake Tahoe, sparklers, a conga line that never ended and laughter and stories around the fire pit. All together this completed the perfect day for these two to begin their life together as one!”
We met 5 years ago in September thru an online service (I know BOLD right)! My first husband passed away 3 years earlier after battling cancer for four years. My sisters felt it was time to get out and date, or at least mingle, so my older sister set up an account for me with Yahoo. Eddie and I chatted back and forth for a while before we set up a meet face to face. It wasn’t love at first site but we had an immediate bond as if we had been friends for years. From the beginning, I made it very clear I was a mother first and that he understood I could commit very little of my time due to the kids’ busy sports activities. He agreed and most of the time committed his weekends to attending their functions along with me. Surprisingly he enjoyed it! After dating for over a year, we knew we wanted to get married but it wasn’t an immediate priority because we were always so busy with the kids and work.
Eddie proposed to me 2 years ago in Santa Cruz during a family reunion on my mom’s side of the family. It was a big surprise – but it was about time! We tossed around so many ideas on wedding locations from our backyard, a cruise ship, a few local wineries, but with Tahoe being one of our favorite getaways how could we resist?
Eddie has never been married. He wanted something big and over the top. I just wanted something small and intimate. We both come from huge families – there would be no possible way we could afford to invite everyone. To me, it’s not about the quantity it’s about the quality. I didn’t want to be that bride who was so consumed about the “perfect wedding” that my whole time revolved around the planning. I also didn’t want to lose the focus of what the day really meant: the joining of our family. It was a very emotional four months for me planning the wedding. I was letting go of my past and creating this future with another man. It was time – I know it’s what Jay would have wanted for me and the kids. All he ever wanted was for me and the kids to be loved and cared for. Eddie truly does love us.
I picked out that rustic chic theme because it is soft and carefree. That’s how I felt: free and calm, a new beginning. I know it’s a little corny but I wanted something that represented the kids and me. I really aimed to create an atmosphere of peace and happiness. Our music selection wasn’t your typical music and the menu wasn’t your typical wedding food. But that is who we are: down to earth and go with the flow. We just wanted our guests to have fun and I think we accomplished that.
We couldn’t have been happier with all of our vendors that helped to create our special day just as we envisioned it to be. It was such a beautiful day!
What a fabulous day and such an amazing love story! Huge congrats to the happy couple!
